Range Rover's Evoque convertible concept. If you’re looking for a topless crossover, your current options are limited to just one vehicle: the Nissan Murano Cross-Cabriolet. We suppose you could include the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in the mix, but it’s on-road ride quality isn’t something we’d want to endure on a daily basis.

That may soon change, as Land Rover is showing off its Evoque convertible concept at next month’s Geneva Motor Show. As Land Rover explains, the drop-top Evoque is meant to “explore the potential for the world’s first premium convertible SUV,” meaning that Land Rover will be extremely interested in hearing customer feedback on the concept.

The company adopted a similar strategy with the DC100 concepts, which will likely serve as the basis of the next-generation Land Rover Defender. An Evoque convertible fits in with the brand’s strategy of of expanding the Evoque product line beyond the existing range.

So far, everything has been positively enigmatic, but now clean tech specialist Theo O’Neill has shed more light on what financial analysts from Barclays called the Model X’s “falcon doors.”

O’Neill hasn’t seen the car in real life or ridden in it, but after seeing photographs, he’s pretty excited about how the doors operate.

2012 Toyota HighlanderIf you’re planning to buy a new Toyota or Lexus in the near future, pay attention. The automaker just announced pricing on a range of vehicles, and several popular models — including the 2012 Toyota Corolla, Highlander, and Tundra — are due for a price increase. Others, like the 2012 Matrix, will drop. And the 2012 Venza is a little bit of both. Here’s a breakdown:

2013 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover on test drive, Southern California, Nov 2011Let’s face it: If you want the best gas mileage in a compact or mid-size all-wheel drive crossover, you have to go hybrid.

But hybrids are still more expensive than gasoline models by a few thousand dollars, and the majority of buyers prioritize price over those last few miles per gallon.

So the new 2013 Mazda CX-5 promises to raise the bar for gas mileage in the compact crossover segment.
