Sebastian Vettel is about to commence his quest to maintain his world champion status in Formula 1 in the 2012 season, and as brand ambassador for Infiniti, he also has a special-edition FX50.

First unveiled last September in concept form, the special FX50 has been confirmed for production by Infiniti at this week’s 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Dubbed the Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version, the vehicle will be produced in a limited run of just 200 units, all of them destined for sale in Europe and the Middle East only.

Like the concept, each Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel Version will be based on the regular FX50 crossover. However, increased power, lower weight, longer gearing, increased downforce and lowered, stiffer suspension will turn what is already a sporty crossover into something that’s capable of sports car performance.

Peak output in the production version will be raised from the FX50’s stock 390 horsepower to 414 horsepower, matching the output of the concept. Other modifications should include an aggressive front spoiler, plus an assortment of carbon fiber pieces including a rear wing, special side mirrors, and some sporty skirts. Silver “Vettel” badging featured on the concept is also likely to be fitted to the production version.

Customer reservations are being taken now ahead of first deliveries from early 2013.

While American readers may lament Infiniti’s decision to limit the vehicle to overseas markets, many of the modifications may eventually filter across to models developed under Infiniti’s fledgling performance brand, IPL.
