The all-electric Nissan LEAF may be a harbinger of future Nissan small-car design if a leaked sketch purporting to be the 2012 Nissan Versa is any indication. That’s not particularly surprising, since it was aerodynamically optimized to make the most of its battery pack. Or course, such slipperiness also benefits gas-engined cars, too.

The details that accompanied the sketch are few, noting only that the car will be sold in the U.S. As for what will be powering the Versa, a combination of manual and automatic transmissions mated to either the current 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter mills, or possibly the Juke’s turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, though nothing has been confirmed as yet.

Pricing, also like the current Versa, is expected to start just south of the $10,000 mark if you’re willing to do without amenities like air conditioning. More reasonably equipped models will likely come in around the $11,000-$12,000 mark.
