The optional navigation system now features access to up-to-the-minute information and entertainment content through SIRIUS Travel Link. Also new for 2009 is a Sport Package for XLT models.

For 2008, side-curtain airbags are standard on all models. Voice activation is added to the optional navigation system, and top-line Limited models get standard power adjustable pedals and a universal garage door opener. Options due later in the year include a capless fueling system, 20-inch wheels, and Ford's Sync entertainment and communication system.

The Explorer Sport Trac adds fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering-wheel, a power rear window, a drop-in storage bin, and side-curtain airbags as standard.
Ford's Sync communications and entertainment system is optional for 2008. The optional navigation system offers voice activation for 2008.

For 2007, Ford has simplified the Explorer lineup. The Safety Canopy side air-curtain system is now standard on Eddie Bauer and Limited models. An auxiliary audio input jack is now standard, and power-retracting running boards and heated windshield wipers are available. The available rear-seat DVD entertainment center comes with a larger screen.
